Chris Whitley / Jeff Lang ā Dislocation Blues
Normally Iād say this would be ignored completely, but as the last album Whitley recorded before he died I think it stands a chance. I loved Automatic back in the day. 6.9. Actual rating: pending. Point differential: TBD.

If the 'fork reviews this and not "Reiter In" (Whitley's other 'last' album), it will be a travesty. Granted, I have not heard the Lang collaboration, but "Reiter In" is a brave, life-affirming piece of work created in the face of impending death. I wish more people would hear it.
Unfortunately, this one will fly under the 'fork's radar. If they didn't pick up Reither In, which is an essential, gorgeous album, they won't pick up this one. The only wild card is that, Lang, a cult guitar hero in his own right, is just starting to release albums in the States (see the bring-you-up-to speed compilation Prepare Me Well), though he's had a small, but fiercely loyal following here for a while. If one of Lang's albums gets the attention it deserves (unlikely), focus will come back to this one.
I don't think they would know to do with a record like this, but I'm predicting that should it come up, 7.4 (it's always a little higher when death is involved).
